Programme of Events for 2019

All Meetings will be held in St. Michael’s Church, Mytholmroyd.

Doors open at 7pm, talks start at 7.30pm.

All talks and the two walks are free to Members. Visitors pay £3.00. Annual Membership £10.00.

Everyone welcome, just turn up on the night.

  • 8th March – The Hippies of Hebden Bridge – Jenny Slaughter and Chris Ratcliffe.
  • 12th April – Patterns in the Landscape: The Evolution of Settlement and Enclosure in the Upper Calder Valley – Nigel Smith.
  • 11th May – Heritage Day – Morning Speakers: – D Fletcher, P Watson, P Jordan – Growing up in Mytholmroyd in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. – Afternoon Speaker: – Ian Dewhirst, M.B.E. – Life in the 1950s.
  • 14th June – A guided walk looking at Pre-History on Midgley Moor – Dr. David Shepherd.
  • 10th August – Annual Excursion – we visit The Black Country Living Museum.
  • 13th September – Rushbearing: A history of an ancient custom – Gary Stringfellow.
  • 11th October – Good ‘Uns and Bad ‘Uns: 800 years of interesting people from the Luddenden area – Rodney Collinge.
  • 8th November – Variety in Wartime – John Wallis.
  • 13th December – Annual General Meeting and Member’s Evening.
  • Members have free membership of Hebden Bridge Local History Society Library.
