Programme of Events for 2020

St Michael’s Church Hall was flooded on Sunday 9th February 2020 and so the Society’s meeting of the 14th February 2020 was held at Mytholmroyd Cricket Club, (near the East entrance to Moderna Business Park, Mytholmroyd), however it is hoped that the Church Hall will be available again for the March meeting.

Doors open at 7pm, talks start at 7.30pm.

All talks and the two walks are free to Members. Visitors pay £3.00. Annual Membership £10.00.

  • 13th March – Speaker, David Fletcher – Life in the Calder Valley 1950 -2020
  • 17th April – Speaker, David Taylor – Operation Starfish: Second World War decoy sites on Blackstone Edge moor
  • 8th May – Possible local visit. To be arranged
  • 12th June – David Glover – Guided tour of Halifax Minster
  • 8th August, (Saturday), Annual Excursion – The trip is to the Macclesfield Silk Museum and the adjacent Paradise Mill and Buxton. Paradise Mill involves a guided tour, which takes about one hour, of what is regarded as Europe’s largest known collection of Jacquard silk handlooms in their original setting. You will see all stages of silk weaving, from cocoon, to the finished fabric. Leaving Mytholmroyd Community Centre car park at 8:45am. Leave Buxton around 5:30pm. Price £24.50.
  • 11th September – Speaker, Amy Binns – Changing times, changing heroines
  • 9th October – Speaker, Kim Pearson – More on the Wainstalls waifs
  • 13th November – Speaker, Peter Thornborrow – Halifax in 50 buildings, Part 1
  • 11th December – AGM followed by member’s evening and refreshments
  • Members have free membership of Hebden Bridge Local History Society Library.
